Camino Frances from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port to Santiago de Compostela

God come to my assistance

At this point in the Camino, something always hurts. In the morning, my ankle takes time to loosen. After today’s 1,700 meter vertical climb over 30 km, my calves burn. Other times, my feet feel as they are walking on hot coals. After 650 km of Camino walking, every Pilgrim has pain.

I wake in the mornings, anticipating the Camino pain, and I say aloud “God come to my assistance, Lord make haste to help me.” When I repeat these words, my worries stop, my mind clears, and my strength is fresh. I call upon God, and my prayers are answered every time, every day.

Elkhart Tolle wrote “Knowing yourself is the root of Being. Acknowledging the good in life is the foundation for all abundance. God said, “Give and it will be given to you.” The acknowledgement of abundance awakens the dormant abundance within.”

I believe Tolle’s words explains the success of “God come to my assistance, Lord make haste to help me.”

I vividly recall the Pilgrim Statue Alto de San Roque. Very moving. The most emotional, though, was the Cruz de Ferro.

I recall my sister and wife and I always commenting, “Why is there a hill to climb first thing every dang morning?”
