Camino Frances from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port to Santiago de Compostela

Dream Walking

Morning beauty is the best reason to walk the Camino, especially from 6 – 10 am. Other pilgrims enjoy camaraderie, exercise, adventure, food, etc. But, I enjoy walking in the early morning to see billions of stars against a black canvas transform into a spectrum of reds, yellows, and oranges on the clouds and blues, greens, and violets in the sky behind. While colours are evolving, thousands of birds sing in various ranges, a symphony of music as my shoes crunch the rocky path. Soon, flowers, trees and crops cover the land in every direction. My 6 – 10 am silent walk is easily my favourite, allowing creative thinking and prayer time during morning Camino walks. I feel God’s love entirely during these moments.

“We ourselves must walk the path.” Buddha

“It is solved by walking.” St Augustine

Pilgrims walk 767 km from Saint Jean Pied de Port to Santiago de Compostela, the Camino Frances. Today, I’m staying in Sahagun, which is 361 km from Santiago de Compostela. Meaning, I’m halfway to finishing the Camino! Today’s walk was only 23 km in cool weather, and I’m physically, mentally and emotionally healthy after a few long, hot walking days. I enjoy covering 30 km each day, which is about 6 hours of walking, ideal in every way. I anticipate walking into Santiago de Compostela in 12 days with ease.

    Hello John

I am tech challenged so disregard my prior blank comment . I am truly enjoying your blog as I follow your walk. The photos are awesome and your reflections genuine. Wonderful you have connected with so many other pilgrims as that does enrich one’s experience. Interesting to hear the reasons you and others are doing the Camino … sometimes hard to articulate!

    Halfway done …Way to go ! !!
